Female Unemployment to Soar

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has released a report which predicts an increase in unemployment amongst women of up to 22 million this year. The ILO warned that although to this juncture the financial crisis has affected primarily male sectors of the job industry, the effects will soon spread into fields dominated by women. Q4: South African Economy First Contraction in Decade

Britain Announces Formal Recession

Britain’s economy entered a recession, for the first time since 1991, officials from the Office for National Statistics say as the economy shrank for the last two quarters of last year - hitting the formal definition of contractionary economy.
