The British Office for National Statistics says that the number of people claiming unemployment benefits in the U.K. is at record highs, according to numbers from February. An estimated 1.39 million residents are now on job seeker’s allowance, following a surge of new claimants totaling in excess of 138,000 last month. On Saturday, March 14th, finance ministers and banking officials from the Group of 20 (G20) developed and developing economies began a conference at the five-star South Lodge Hotel in West Sussex to discuss the current financial crisis and plans for its resolution. Indonesia to Attend G20 Summit

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will attend the G20 summit in London on April 2nd, presidential spokesman Dino patti Djalal confirmed. Though the President faces legislative elections just one week later on April 9th which had until now cast doubts on whether he could attend, the spokesperson told the Jakarta post daily that his attendance is now guaranteed. From Wall Street To Sesame Street

Many people fear that the recession will have an impact on future generations, causing turbulence in the lives of children the world over, and it would seem given the latest figures released by Sesame Workshop that such fears are being realized. The media giant, responsible for, amongst other shows, the children’s show Sesame Street, announced 67 layoffs today, or 20 percent of its employees.
