Prosecutors, Madoff May Reach Plea Bargain

Prosecutors in the Bernard Madoff case filed a motion which suggests Madoff may be ready to plea guilty to the $40 billion Ponzi scheme.

Friday morning, an indication from the U.S. Attorney’s office suggested that the case may be ready to have Madoff “waive an indictment,” language which many believe indicates a plea bargain is ready.

A call to Dickstein Shapiro LLC’s Ira Sorkin, the lawyer on Madoff’s side of the case, was not answered.

If a plea bargain is reached, it would likely mark a conclusion with regard to how much of Madoff and his estate’s assets which would be returned to the investors who were stolen from.

Madoff’s wife is expected to be permitted to keep some of the assets.
