Twenty-five people have been killed in the city of Antananarivo, Madagascar, the capital of the country, after policy opened fire on a protest organized for opposition leader Andry Rajoelina, according to local reports.

Andry Rajoelina, the former mayor of the capital city, was removed from office just this month.

In a conflict with fellow Tribesman and Merinan President, Marc Ravalomanana, who was elected in 2001 and re-elected in December of 2006, followers of Rajoelina were marching towards political offices held under the current establishment when the policy opened fire.

Private reports suggest that hundreds of people may have been wounded, and that the official number of 25 deaths may underestimate the damage.

“The mortuary is full and the hospital is full. On TV there is a special announcement calling on people who have cars to come and pick up the injured people from the hospitals,” said a Madagascan reporter to Al Jazeera news.
