Obama Promises Immediate Action in Afghanistan

President Barack Obama will make a decision regarding the number of troops in Afghanistan “within days, not weeks”, a senior spokesperson revealed today.

After returning from a long weekend in Chicago with family, Obama has a full itinerary for the week ahead; items topping the agenda are Afghanistan , and the signing of the $787 billion economic stimulus plan.

At the request of Lt. Gen. David McKiernan, as many as 30,000 forces may be granted, but Obama is being cautious in his approval  being an opponent of the influx of troops into Iraq since its initial proposal. The Surge came to be a success and this new move is deemed to be an equivalent action.

The remainder of this week promises to be busy for the senior administration at the White House, with Secretary of State Hilary Clinton visiting having landed in Tokyo on Monday to commence her Asia tour.

The President himself will visit Phoenix, Arizona and Denver, Colorado on Tuesday, followed by a much anticipated visit to Ottawa, Canada to meet with PM Stephen Harper and other government officials.
