No More!

AIG: no more! iShares: no more! Jon Stewart: no more! … aircraft: no more?

The First Lady, Michelle Obama, started off last week with one of her first visits outside of Washington, D.C. since the inauguration. After a number of press appearances, it’s fairly certain she’s likely to be an activist on the humanitarian side of things for the entirety of the Obama reign.

Additionally; it seems the world is hating on Iran increasingly so these days. We’re covering more and more Iran every single day here at Politonomist, as this issue unfolds, and it’s unfolding rapidly — the weird thing is, not a lot has actually happened. Important figures around the world are talking about Iran, but in fact, neither the “important figures” nor the Persians have done anything particularly inflammatory at this point. Perhaps there’s a psychological phenomenon; people associating “Iraq” with “Iran.” After all, in this war on terror, it seems that anybody Middle-Eastern is grouped together under the same mushroom cloud.

If that truly is the case, then, it may get a little confusing later this week when a proposed prisoner swap takes place between Israel and Hamas. What with all the disheveled, malnourished, robe-wearing foreigners walking around, the Western paranoia may prove a little overbearing: it’s not like it hasn’t happened before.

Also today, the U.S. shot down an Iranian aircraft, though not, admittedly, one containing people. According to a U.S. military spokesman, the surveillance gathering missile was in Iraqi airspace for over an hour, which warranted its being downed by coalition fighter jets. God forbid anybody actually wants to know what’s going on in the Middle East, let alone one of the nations there.

Speculation is high in the world right now, and it’s good that we still have people like Mark Hanna, to give a totally unbiased insight into current events. Thanks, Hanna!
