Pennsylvania’s largest natural gas utility companies, Dominion People’s, Equitable Gas, and Columbia Gas, are all set to drop rates by up to 10 per cent Thursday, says an article in the Pittsburgh Tribune.
“We have seen a decline in natural gas prices in the market, and this is a national trend,” Elmore Lockley of Dominion Peoples Gas said, in discussion regarding a 7 per cent drop in prices on the three-month rate.
Natural gas prices are inextricably correlated to those of the crude oil market, a market which fell to recent record lows in mid-December.
Other locales, including Arizona, Nevada and California’s Southwest Gas Corp. announced a modest drop in natural gas prices as well.
That said, Nevada-based NV Energy announced a significant increase in rates Thursday, up to approximately $150 per month for single family dwellings in Nevada, an increase of nearly five per cent. The company said that there is no added profit in the quarterly increases in their rates, citing that policy states unexpected changes in fuel or energy prices are passed along to consumers dollar-for-dollar.
