Israel’s Threats Become Attacks

Israel, hours after its Prime Minister Ehud Olmert released threats of disproportionate use of its military on Gaza, turned them into reality.

After being prodded and provoked, the continued falling of rockets into lower Israel from the Gaza Strip heightened tension to the point where low-flying supersonic Israel planes performed fly-by movements on a city to shock, scare, and induce fear of the Palestinians.

Reports also indicate that air raids took place along the Egyptian border, targeting six tunnels used by the militant group Hamas. A Hamas security target was reported hit as well.

This is the first time that the government has allowed the Israeli Defense Forces to retaliate from the mortaring into Israel.

The targets chosen are key to crippling the militancy of Hamas, but it is unreported if Hamas, or Fatah, performed the attacks on Israel.

The independent cease fires claimed on both sides have been routinely broken, and the extent to which Israel will continue the air raids is uncertain.
