Canadians Protest Bush Speech; Four Arrested

Four Canadians were arrested in the city of Calgary during a protest against a paid speech by former President George W. Bush.
Roughly 400 demonstrators gathered at the Telus Convention Centre, where George Bush was expected to make his first post-presidency speech, chanting “war criminal” and “shame on you” to visitors who paid over $300 U.S. to see the event.
Calgary police announced that they arrested four protestors, charging two with obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest, while the others were charged with disturbing the peace and a public behaviour bylaw in the city.
About 1,500 were invited to the event to hear the U.S. president, speaking of his “eight momentous years” and the “challenges of the 21st century.”
Bush said that he hopes Obama is successful and that he has his full support in response to Rush Limbaugh’s previous statement that he hopes Obama fails.
“I’m not going to spend my time criticizing him. There are plenty of critics in the arena. He deserves my silence. [...] I love my country a lot more than I love politics. I think it is essential that he be helped in office,” said Bush.
The former President said that he intends to write a book about his “12 toughest decisions” made during the years he was in office.
Additionally, Bush confirmed that Barbara Bush, his mother, was doing well after being released from a Houston hospital He also said his mother is doing well. Barbara Bush was released from a Houston hospital Friday, nine days after undergoing heart surgery.
